Stainless Steel Fabrication Services
Our expertise comes from combining experienced fabricators with the equipment and processes necessary to control stainless steel throughout the manufacturing process.
We work with stainless steel and provide in-house:
- CNC laser and punch cutting
- Precision forming and press brake operations
- CNC machining
- MIG, TIG, Robotic and Laser welding
- Weld finishing and surface preparation
- Drafting and design support
Our welding team includes experienced welders with qualifications across multiple welding processes. This allows us to shift our approach based on material grade and thickness, joint configuration, accessibility, production requirements, and desired weld appearance.
Because cutting, forming, machining, and welding are performed in-house, our team can directly coordinate the fabrication process. Our engineers and drafters can also work from customer-supplied drawings or develop 3D designs for custom equipment and assemblies with fabrication requirements in mind.
Stainless Steel Fabrication Requires Specialized Expertise
Stainless steel is selected for its corrosion resistance, strength, and durability. However, those same material characteristics can make it significantly more demanding to fabricate than carbon steel. 304 and 316 stainless steel, for example, have relatively low thermal conductivity and higher thermal expansion than carbon steel, making heat management critical during welding. Austenitic stainless steels also work-harden rapidly, affecting machining, forming, and cutting operations.
Fabrication technique matters because the wrong process can cause distortion, excessive heat tint, galling, surface contamination, or dimensional problems. More importantly, poor fabrication practices can compromise the passive surface that gives stainless steel its corrosion resistance.
At Astro Metal Craft, stainless steel fabrication is a controlled manufacturing process. Our experience allows us to account for the material’s behavior from material handling and cutting through forming, welding, machining, and finishing.
Fabrication Built Around the Application
Stainless steel fabrication requirements change significantly depending on where the finished component will operate. A structural stainless assembly may prioritize strength and dimensional accuracy, while equipment for a food-processing environment may require strict control of surface finish, weld condition, and cleanability. Components exposed to aggressive chemicals or wastewater may require careful consideration of material grade and surface condition.
We fabricate custom stainless steel components, equipment, and weldments for food processing, water and wastewater treatment, material handling, filtration, automation, and other industrial applications where corrosion resistance and long-term performance are critical.
